2012 McLaren MP4-12C Specs and Review

in the last year, a McLaren team that with experience in developing successful Formula A car and the expertise of McLaren car launch in the past, has launched a new type of sports car. The new MP4-12C features breakthrough technology was born on the race track, and first available on Wall Street car.

Unique M838T engine powering the new McLaren MP4-12C is a 3.8-liter twin turbo V8, which was designed by McLaren Automotive. It weighs 199kg (439 pounds), M838T has a dry sump lubrication system and the plane crankshaft, which has allowed McLaren Automotive engineers to put the machine is very low in the chassis, lowering the center of gravity 12C and successively optimize the car's handling response.

At the rear, high level exhaust pipes exit the car from the mixing box rather than a conventional silencer unit, saving weight. An optional Sport exhaust made of Inconel, an alloy that is heat-resistant nickel-chromium-based, further reducing weight and improving the exhaust note. M838T is combined with a double clutch, seven speed transmission 'SSG. Using the Active Dynamics Panel is located in the center console 12C cockpit, the transmission characteristics of the SSG can be activated via three different settings : 'Normal', 'Sports' and 'Track' mode. Each gives the proximity of progressive gear, operated by a finger-tip controls mounted on a rocking chair behind the wheel of 12C : upshift by either pull or push with your right to the left, and the other way around to downshift. This 'one-hand shifting' principal, and satisfactory mechanical 'click' on gearchange, reminiscent of the shift mechanics introduced and still used in Formula 1 car.
